Dasylirion Serratifolium belongs to the Ruscaceae family. Palm tree native to Mexico with a sturdy trunk and narrow, elongated, thorny leaves at the edges and with grayish and fibrous endings. The inflorescences are produced only by adult plants, they are narrow and white in color. It can be grown outdoors and withstands short nocturnal frosts if the soil is draining. It can grow in the ground or in pot and over the years develops a more or less prostrate woody stem. At the top is a rosette of many narrow and long leaves. They are gray-green in color, and the margins have light spines. Height It can reach 1.8 m in height. Exposure The Dasylirion serratifolium should be grown in a bright place, with direct sunlight. To prevent damage caused by the cold temperatures, during the months with definately harsh minimum temperatures, we can protect the shrubs by covering the soil around the stem with straw or dry leaves. Temperature The Dasylirion serratifolium can't stand temperatures below zero; they should be grown in cold green houses or at least in a place where they are sheltered by the wind; when every risk of late freezings has gone by we can place them outside or remove the protections. Fertilization Shrubs develop new shoots and prepare their flowers during the spring period, therefore we must remember, by the end of the winter, to give it a good dose of humus or mature manure, or granular slow release fertilizer, to be added to the soil at the foot of the plant. During the spring we can choose a fertilizer rich in nitrogen and potassium, to mix with the irrigating water, every 20-25 days. Treatments Generally during this time of year we suggest a pre-emptive treatment with wide range insecticide and with a systemic fungicide, to prevent the attack from part of the aphids and the development of fungus diseases, often favoured by a mild and damp climate. Soil For these shrubs it’s necessary to choose a rich and deep substratum, which presents an excellent drainage. Package Bucket with handles in high density polyethylene (HDPE) of black color 35 Lt.
